I really don't want to induce labor because I want a natural birth but I'm just about ready to get this birth over with. I live about an hour away from the hospital and my mum, who lives about 10 minutes away from the hospital, is trying to convince me to come and stay at her place next week so I can be closer to the hospital. Thing is, hubby and I want to have this baby first before we call in the mother-in-laws and extended family mainly because I've been doing a lot of meditation and hypnobabies stuff and our mothers are very loud and annoying sometimes. I wish for a peaceful and calm experience so I'm torn between mum's persistent demands and advice, and our original plan to go from home to the hospital.
I think 1 hour away from the hospital is not too bad I am just nervous about the possibility of arriving late at the hospital rather than a little early or right on time. Any advice on when to know for SURE I need to head out? No mucus plug yet although I saw a little whitish discharge over the last couple of days (very minimal). I have been having light contractions (like menstrual pains) which are irregular and not so strong so I'm guessing those are still Braxton Hicks contractions. If I have him by this weekend it will probably be easier to go with our original plan and avoid going to mom's because I'm sure by next week she will be on my case big time and hubby is not too happy about that idea since it's our first child and we want our experience to be intimate and perfect. I'm eating spicy food and will work on DTD (so heavy now!! ) I'm also drinking Red Raspberry leaf tea (RRL at 30% so not so potent). Wish me luck!
PS: Anyone 39 weeks or beyond yet? care to share your updates?
hang in there! The done feeling is so normal at this point! Im right there with you, 39 weeks 5 days here and still no baby!
I was always told that when contractions are about every 5 minutes and you are unable to walk or talk during them (like you need to stop and just get through the contraction before you can continue to do whatever it is you were doing)
Though you are a bit further from your hospital than many people, so you may want to leave a little sooner than contractions every 5 minutes. If i were a FTM that was an hour from the hospital i would probably head in as soon as i was having regular painful contractions, maybe when they were every 10 minutes or so instead of 5
I agree with Bree for going in a little earlier. If they tell you its too early, I'd imagine there is a park or store or somewhere nearby you could go to walk around and kill time? There are so many things in labor you CAN'T control, so I say the things you want and can have your way, like it just being you and Dh, you should get. And remind your mother that 40 weeks is an average, not an expiration. Just as many ppl go at 38 and 42 weeks.
I live 30 min from the hospital and am almost 40 weeks, so I understand your worry. I was having contrax 5 min apart the other night and I went in but they sent me home because they started spacing back out. So keep in mind that as a first-timer you are likely to have plenty of time to make it to the hospital. Definitely go in when they start getting more frequent and more painful. Good luck!!
