I breast feed exclusively but have been pumping to freeze. We have given Ella a few bottles of breast milk just to get her use to a bottle. My question is how much are your babies taking at a feeding? I plan to continue breast feeding but want an idea of how much I should give her for a feeding when I am not able too? I am thinking about 4 oz, does that sound about right? She was born weighing 8lb 10 oz and I am sure she is getting near 10lbs.

my doc said 1 oz per wk for the first 6 wks. So if the baby is 5 wks old it should be eating 5 ozs per feeding. I found the docs estimate to be accurate.

Our pedi recommends 0.5 of an oz per pound of your baby. So if your baby is 10lb approx 5oz per feeding.

The lactation consultants I see gave me this formula: 2.5 x weight, then divide that by number of feedings a day to see how much to feed them.

That doesn't seem like much if you're giving an 8lb baby feedings every 3 hours, it's only 2.5 oz.
