For those with kids, do you pay them an allowance for helping out around the house?
If so, how does your system work?
How did you decide on how much they get?
Any tips or advice you would like to share about giving an allowance?

I don't do allowances.. My kids have certain jobs that help with the household. When they have been doing their chores withougt complaining, then I will usually tell them they can get something from the dollar store or buy them a small toy at the store.

we use a chores on demand method. meaning whatever I ask them to do they do it.
I've never really been big on allowances because I feel everyone in the household should contribute to the household in means of helping with setting the table, taking out the trash etc.
Since my son is in middle school they have a regular lunch and a a la carte type lunch. He was burning through money like crazy with his lunch account because he was buying all kinds of specialty drinks and ice creams in addition to his lunch. So we decided to give him an allowance to go towards that so he could have those extras, but have a budget for it and not cost us so much money each month. So I had a block put on his lunch account so he can only buy one lunch a day out of his account and all extras have to be paid for with cash.
The kids get paid every two weeks when we get paid and David gets $15 every two weeks and Hailey gets $7. David does more than Hailey does.
