Stool softeners: yes. Just make sure it is a stool softener, not a laxative. I take the occasional docusate for constipation.
Folic acid: The United States Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) recommends that all women of reproductive age take a supplement containing 0.4 mg to 0.8 mg of folic acid daily. Most OTC prenatal vitamins have 800 mcg (0.8mg), while some prescription prenatals have 1mg. Last pregnancy, I could not tolerate my prenatals, so for a while I took just folic acid. I added a multi vitamin when I could keep it down.

I take my prenatal and an extra folic acid, mostly due to my RPL. So at the moment I take 1600 mcg folic acid and did the same with Isaac. But I don't think that much is needed for most pgs, the 800 is likely fine.
