Who is planning on having a NT scan done? H and I can't decide. We aren't at high risk but our midwife offered it to us and we have to decide by Tuesday. BTDT moms did you have one with your previous pregnancy?

We are. We had one with the last pregnancy. Just out of curiousity why do you need to decide by Tuesday?

So she can give us the script for it. We have an appt tuesday and then she's going out of town for the month. By the time she gets back it will be too late to have it done.

We likely will not be doing any of the testing and such, it wouldn't change us keeping the pg so it's just more stress waiting on results and the possibility of false positives.

It won't change anything for us either but I guess I would like to know and be prepared. It's not 100% accurate though, so I also don't want to stress over a possible positive and baby really is fine.

Nuchal translucency. Test for downs and other chromosomal defects as well as cardiac defects. Can also look at the nasal bridge for deformities.

Last time I don't even think I got in to see the OB before it was too late for that test. It is an u/s, right? I don't know what we will do this time. If we haven't had an u/s yet I might do it just to make sure there is a little heart beating in there.

We're trying to decide what to do as well. I think I'd be fine without the test, but hubby wants to know. I think he's looking for some reassurance that everything is ok.

It's an U/S and a blood test, they calculate your risk based on the 2 tests. We are not going to do it, it won't change anything, and I hate giving blood, and am not convinced U/S are safe. Plus they aren't terribly accurate. A friend just had a baby and her NT scan gave her a 1 in 11 chance of a baby with Down syndrome, so you can imagine how she felt the rest of her pregnancy (which at that point is about 30 weeks) and her baby ended up being healthy and all is well.

We're undecided. They didn't offer it 7 years ago when I was pregnant with my son. In one way, if something were wrong, I would really like to be prepared. In another way, can you ever really prepare yourself for something like that? I think I will be stressed either way so I can't decide. I don't remember all this anxiety last time I was pregnant. I think I was just young and it wasn't planned and I didn't know any better. This time around, every appointment, every decision, has me in a panic!!! Could you just take the script on tues and then still have a few weeks to think about it?

Well there is the big anatomy scan they do at 18-20 weeks, and it will show if there are any abnormalities, I think the reason for NT scan is that it's still early enough for termination if people want to.

Ditto ditto! We will refuse all tests that only worry you unnecessarily and for which a positive result just means "maybe you should abort it".

Our NT scans here are done at 20 weeks, thats why I didn't understand so early to decide!

We only get one US and they check everything, with my daughter they discovered a circumvallate placenta. And only as of July started disclosing the sex of the baby. I just like seeing the bubs and if something may be wrong, prepare for it(Abortion is not an option to me)
