Ok so my uncle had a mild stroke yesterday, ended up having a carotid artery blockage and had to have surgery today, He MIGHT get to go home tomorrow evening (he is doing alright they are just giving him pain meds and keeping their eye on him).. anywayy

I will be in the SAME hospital he is in while getting my GD 3 hour testing done, my question is ( I know I wont know 100% till I ask BUT) do you think they would allow me to walk to his room? I have heard they don't allow you to walk around because of dizziness in case you fall from the drink, but I don't think it would be that bad since I would be IN the hospital... then again I could always see if they would have a nurse come with...

I know we have a few nurses on the board if they have any insight haha just wondering! It would help my time go faster and less stress thinking about the test!

I don't see why they wouldn't let you leave. During my 3 hr test I came and went every hour for the blood draw. It was no big deal. I've always been given the option to stay at te clinic or go back and forth between home or run errands. I was also by myself.. So I was driving myself around.

well thats good! I have heard different takes on this, some don't let you leave without someone or drive because the drink can make you dizzy, or pass out.. and some don't even let you walk because of that same reason or it can hinder the results because your moving around (not saying this is true!)

I haven't had mine yet, but I know at the hospital I'm going to, you don't sit in the lab the whole time. My friend went out to her car to lay down, I think. You will probably be fine to go visit him. Personally I'd say don't bother to ask for a nurse to escort you. For one, you'll probably just be seeing phlebotomists, and two, they aren't likely to have the ability to leave the lab (and their work).

I am so sorry to hear about your uncle. I am glad that he seems to be recovering well.

Every lab has different policies. With my first pregnancy I had to sit in the room and could only leave to go to the bathroom. I wasn't allowed to walk around at all.

This last time I had the 2 hour test in a different lab and they said I could leave as long as I was back in time for the next blood draw. The only restriction was that I couldn't do anything that would count as "exercise".
