Well I had my regular two week appointment today. My BP has been high and today it was 160/96. So they did a NST and baby was perfect. I even got to hear him hiccup (since I don't feel it that was really special for me). So glad baby is doing well. For the elevated BP they ordered a 24 hour urine and then blood work and I should have results by Friday. So here is the disappointing point: The doctor tells me that I really need to get more exercise and I should walk for 30 minutes each day at least. I almost cried. First of all I am on my feet 9-10 hours each day at work. (If I didn't have a job this would seem WAY more reasonable and FYI until about 2 months ago I was exercising but then got too breathless and tired with this big belly. I have run tons of races including two half marathons. I am not a lazy person, just to clarify) When I get home from work my feet are swollen and I am tired. Exercise at this point, really??? I just want to relax. I just want someone to tell me to put my feet up and relax. Really I am crying right now thinking about much I need a break, and they tell me to exercise!!!

Aww.. I am so sorry to hear that's what they say. Remember you can only do what you are up to doing... Mine always yelled about my weight...I am a great, healthy eater, and there wasn't anything I could do about it! This time around I eat the exact same way and if anything, my house is like Hershey World, and I haven't gained...You gotta do what is natural for you, comfortable for you, and listen to your body also. Don't upset yourself, because that's not great for your bp either.

Take a deep breath and relax tonight! Thinking of you DDB!!!

Put your feet up, girl!! Seriously! Why did the doctor say you needed to exercise more??? If they're testing you for pre-e, I'd think it would be the opposite? When I had pre-e they put me on restricted activity. Just curious what his reason was?

Aww man! I am sure you get more steps in than most people! Don't stress over it. Maybe some yoga would be a good compromise? Might be relaxing for you. I'm glad baby is doing well & hope your tests come back with good results.

This is so weird to me.. Because when my pressure was up at the 35 week appointment (160/100) The first thing the doctor told me is I need you to relax more and he sent me to triage right that moment. Then they put me on bed rest and at that time my protein in my urine was just trace.

Why would your doctor tell someone with high blood pressure and pregnant to be WAY more active?? Especially if you are developing pre-e and they aren't sure yet. That doesn't sound right to me.

You should be putting your feet up and bringing your stress level down as much as possible right now. AT LEAST until your tests come back and rule out Pre-E.

It sounds like you are already getting a lot of exercise if you are on your feet that much during the day. Sit down and relax. I hope that your tests come back with good results!

Thanks everyone!! I think my OB thinks my high blood pressure is due to lack of exercise and weight gain (which I happen to agree, it probably is. I tend toward higher BP when I am not working out or have gained weight). But right now, the thought of exercise makes me sick. I can't even walk up the steps without getting breathless. Hopefully the urine and blood work come back fine. In that case I might have to suggest they put me on part time work so I can actually consider exercise. Although at this point I am doubtful that a 30 minute walk can really reduce it that much. Especially at my current slow pace. In the mean time, I have taken your advice and my feet are up.

That doesn't sound right to me at all. I had pre-e with my first and they would have never said to exercise more. Even if you just had PIH I can't see them recommending that. I wouldn't be listening to anything that dr said! Yikes!

Does your doctor not know the nature of your work? I'd ignore his "advice" and rest up, you deserve it

That's really interesting to me. Last time, I had high blood pressure at 1 appointment. I got no lectures about weight, etc. -- just a one-way ticket to bed rest. They ordered the 24-hour urine and blood test, but that was all to be done on bed rest, until they knew if it was pre-eclampsia. Even once they ruled out pre-eclampsia for me, they wouldn't take me off bed rest because my blood pressure kept fluctuating high/low/high/normal. Anyhow, to suggest MORE exercise and to not put you on bed rest now seems crazy to me. Obviously, I'm not a doctor, but I've never heard of sending you back to work if they suspect pre-eclampsia!!

I'm glad you rested up last night, and I hope everything comes back fine on Friday!!!
