Good thing for the stool softeners, after surgery you definitely don't want to have to strain to go. I remember being so scared to go after I had DS, but it really wasn't that bad. I think the thought of it was worse then the actual act of going. Try to relax. Maybe bring a pillow to brace against your incision. Good luck!!!

I've had two c-sections and I don't remember it being bad with either of them.

I didn't have a c section but my first poop was pretty painful, I had a nasty hemmie from pushing so that didn't help at all. My bowels have been pretty messed up since birth anyways ... one day I'll be normal, the next diarrhea and the next constipated ... but my butt doesn't hurt as much as it did that first time!

Mine wasn't bad at all (and I had a c section). I was a little nervous but it was fine. I hope the same is true for you!

Vaginal delivery here, and even with stool softeners, the first time was horrific. I had a small tear and a couple of stitches, but it was super painful. Ugh.

I didn't get stool softners with my son after my section. I don't know why. It was AWFUL. I took stool softner after my daughter and that made all the difference

Ditto ^ Last time I had no stool softeners and it took a week to have the first BM, I had two failed attempts before getting it done, and it was worse than the delivery stuff.

THIS time I've had the softeners and went last night after my surgery midday on the 2nd. It was great- no problems, my body did all the work so that I didn't have to strain those sore ab spots, and I was so proud of myself. It was 1000 times better than last time!

Last time, I really don't remember getting stool softeners. I tore & had stitches. I went before I left the hospital & had no pain or problems going. After 9 months of being on Zofran though, I doubt it would have even phased me if I did.

Yes!! Ask for them as soon as you get to the post partum unit. I had them after my section but still couldn't go. I needed an enema. Ughhh

Sorry! Definitely one of my least favorite parts of postpartum recovery.
