C'mon and speak up.

1.Do you know if the pulse ox test was performed on your baby?
2.Did you have to request it?
3.Do you remember what the number was?

My answers:
1. Yes, it was.
2. No, I didn't. It ended up being standard procedure at my hospital. They did, however, put a pulse ox on both her arm and her leg and kept it on for a while to look for signs of pulmonary hypertension.
3. 77 - A definite fail. However, as far as we know, it wasn't because of a heart problem, but because she'd had meconium in her fluid, a very rapid delivery that didn't let her lungs clear out, and an as of yet undiagnosed problem.

Remember - if the pulse ox test was NOT done on your baby - it is not too late to get it done. At this stage babies can still have a lot of doctors appointments so just request the pulse ox the next time you go to the doctor. And don't tell yourself "oh, he/she is fine. I don't need to get it done" because some illnesses are invisible until its too late.

Yes, it was done, and no, we didn't have to request it. It is standard at our hospital...I even got a patient handout explaining it. I think they do it at 24 hours usually, but she had it done in the delivery room because she was grunting, nostrils flaring and having difficulty breathing. It was mid 60's at that point, so they put her on oxygen and it was up in the upper 90's. She was continuously monitored in the NICU. Sometime the next day she was taken off oxygen and she remained at or near 100 after that until discharge.

Yup - she had it done as standard practice here in NY. I do not remember what her number was originally - they did it in the delivery room because she was placed on oxygen for a bit due to resp distress, and then they redid it the next day and she was 100%.

Still pregnant here, but I've already talked to my dr about it, and he said we can have it done for our peace of mind and it's in my birth plan.

We had it done. We had to ask. The doc was excited we did, he is actually working on making it standard but are in a hold up with Childrens getting the echo procedure set up for those that fail, still working on it. He said it should be all set soon. He was impressed we asked. I also posted to my friend who's little one has hypoplastic left heart syndrome. She made sure to harp at me too ; ) His stats were 97 and 98

We had it done. I wrote it into my birth plan, and I remember in a very groggy state thinking "I need to ask if they did it" when they told me they were taking her to the nursery to do it. I don't remember what it was though.

Yes we had it done, I asked for it because it isn't mandatory in Iowa yet and they said they do it on all babies, I don't know the numbers.

I had told dh to make sure to ask for it but they did it automatically and gave us paperwork on it. I don't know what his numbers were as dh just said they were good.

1. Yes we had it done.
2. It was standard but I did ask about it before I knew it was standard. After you telling us about it I wasn't going to leave the hospital without having it done. Thank you for telling us about it.
3. Her number was 99.
