I have tendonitis on my left thumb and wrist which I've read is called Mommy thumb. it's been painful for weeks and it finally got bad enough to go to the doctor. He prescribed a wrist spica to wear for the next two weeks. no moving my thumb for the next two weeks.Anyone else suffering?

Yes I have it on both wrists. It would wake me up with a sharp pain in the morning and was causing my arms and hands to have some numbness. It got so bad I couldn't lift Rosie in the morning to feed her. DH had to get her up and position her for me.

I went to an orthopedic doctor and got 2 cortisone shots, 1 in each wrist. He said that should last and I only had to avoid breast feeding for 4 hours after the shots according to the pediatrician and midwife. He didnt want to give me the wrist splints because it would be hard to care for the baby. do you find it is interfering with taking care of your daughter? mine is definitely better now and i am trying to be careful to lift her properly so it doesnt startup again.

I bet that would make it tough to care for a baby! Hope you can get some relief!

I haven't heard of that either. How does it happen? I'm sorry to hear you've got it. It sounds pretty painful.

I've been lifting her by her armpits which puts strain on the tendon running on the outside of the thumb down through the wrist.

I was wondering about the pain I have been having! It's only in my right hand. It hurts to burp him with that hand.

When you lift him try to keep your wrists straight and stiff..don't bend them to scoop him up. It's a little awkward and its slower than just scooping the baby up, but seems to be helping mine not come back.
