I didn't read the article, but I find it annoying. Just as I find that drop side cribs aren't allowed any more. It's personal choice. I am short and I really liked knowing I can put the side down if I need it. Why does the government need to regulate this? It's not like we're talking about baby poison here.

I don't need laws to tell me what to put in my baby's crib (are there baby crib police?) just like I don't need them to tell me to not drink a 100 oz. soda. Hmph.

I agree with Maine! I had the same crib for my 1st 3 daughters (a drop-side), and we never once had any issues with it. However, when I wanted to use it with my 4th, they wouldn't replace the missing screws, etc. because the bed was recalled, as all drop-side cribs were. Also, my 4 girls all had bumpers in their cribs. This time, the only reason we don't have one is because I decided not to do a specific bedding set and have something handmade instead. If people want to use the bumpers, Maryland isn't that big of a state so they'll just go over the border to get them.

I was thinking about this again earlier, and I think it's absurd that I, as an adult, can buy cigarettes or massive quantities of alcohol, which I might smoke & blow into my baby's face or ingest & then drive with my baby in the back or even just nurse her while intoxicated. But heaven forbid I buy bumpers.

The government trying to save us from ourselves is getting out of control. What if someone buys a length of nursery fabric, quilting batting, and other sewing materials that could be used to make homemade bumpers? Is THAT allowed? Where does it end? The article says that there is no point to bumpers... I think the point is to keep limbs from getting caught and wrenched. (For the record, I have breathable bumpers. Are THOSE banned too?)

Totally agree. I was thinking something along those lines before I posted this. I've never used bumpers because we didn't need them, but yeah, I don't think this is something that needs government control.
