I have recently purchased an elliptical and have started working out as well as dieting. For those of you who are bfing and working out, how many calories do you try to take in a day and how many do you burn in exercise? Thanks in advance.
I work out a lot these days and use my elliptical too. So congrats on getting one they really help. I'm not doing any actual calorie counting but I just make sure that I eat healthy. I try to take in very few empty calories and eat lots of fruits, veggies, whole grains and lean meats. That way whatever isn't taken for the breast milk I can burn it off easily.
I gauge if I'm eating enough by the color of my breast milk when I pump. I try to keep it where it has a slightly yellow tint. That way I know that its rich enough for the baby so that he doesn't need to eat nonstop all day to be satisfied.
I start with my maintenance calories (1640 according to MFP) and then add 200 calories for breastfeeding. I started with 500 extra in the beginning, but I started to gain, so I gradually cut back to where I was losing weight slowly while maintaining my supply. Also, I estimate how many calories I burn from exercise, and I eat back most of those. I also avoid really vigorous exercise. We were recently given an elliptical, so I do that sometimes, as well as various workout DVDs. I estimate that I burn about 200-300 calories per workout.

I don't count calories. I just eat healthy with a little extra. I drink tons of water and some Gatorade. Right now I'm currently just using my elliptical and hope to get into a routine with my exercise videos soon. I just need to find a food video - right now I only have Jillian Michaels and I don't want anything to intense to cause a drop in supply.
