Assalaamu alaikom.

Did you or are you planning on having an akeekah? If so, what do you plan on doing or what did you do? Did yall do things particular to your culture only, if so what?

Also, as a side note, can someone tell me what is proper aqiqa or akika or what? What is the arabic letters for the word?

Maybe I am spelling it wrong!

The aqiqa is when the babe is 7 days old, goat(s) are slaughtered, circumsized (if its a boy), head is shaved, weight of the hair given in silver to charity, and then food (i guess the goat?) is given out to friends and family. From what I hear, people bring gifts for the baby and every one eats and has a merry old time. I never been to one before.

I have heard of it completely, I didnt know the name of it.

Well we didnt we had traditional Baby Shower, inshAllah we have another child we plan on having Aqiqa. From what i know they are beautiful and fun and I look forward to it.

What have you planned so far for your baby? And where is DH from, it seems to vary depending on their culture.

I had a very small, simple baby shower. My friend did it in a big rush. We really didn't play games. It was a little potluck among like8 ppl.

My husband is from Nigeria. He said everyone comes and brings 50$ for the baby. He said he didn't like it though because in Nigeria/Ghana they make it like expected. He was against registering also. He doesn't like baby showers either for the same reason people are expected to bring gifts and might not come if they don't have a gift.

I am Hispanic-American so I get to bring my own culture into what we do. hehe I said we are going to get pinata for the kids that come. They are so much fun.

I know we want to have the 'alim that married us give a short speech, read quran, some prayers, ziyarat, and then have food. I am not sure if we'll behaving it at home or at our centre. I guess that will depend on the $$$ flow. My husband is pretty set on having one. If we have it at home. It may be alittle crowded. The women can go into one room and the men and kids in the living room and stuff but I dunno yet.

He is been preparing his recitation since we read the Positive pregnancy result so I know he is looking forward to it. lol

Aww, you guys sound so cute and so sweet. MashAllah that baby is very lucky.

When I think back on our son I wish I would have done it, but since my husband is the only family menber here and all his friends were very young minded (mid 20's) it would have been a waste. Since then most have grown completely including ourselves. So, if Allah gives us another chance inshAllah we will do it all right.

If you can buy your child a braclet or necklace of black beads for protection after birth. We believe in protecting our son and always have had something on him. But it is not cultural it's Islamic and I really think it's sweet. Also, I heard of a new dvd set called "Your Baby Can Read" it is amazing, a little costly. A 20 month old baby was reading with no problem. I havent found them yet but inshAllah I will.

Well I could go on and on, take care and It's great chatting with you.
