my sister had left her kids (5 from ages 8-2) in the truck while she went in walmart to pick up pictures... the youngest got out of her car seat and was in the drivers seat a lady walking past saw this and was scared for the kids, called the police... by the time they came my sister had just pulled out of the parking lot. They pulled her over and gave her a ticket, she had to appear in court and got probation. A cop the other day here at the building saw a 5 year old left in a car while the parent picked up food and forced the parent to go get the child from the car. Now I do leave Islam in the vehicle and take Sumaiya into 7-11.. I can see the truck from the coffee stand and all the employees know us so I feel safe doing it, however I dont leave them if I cant see them, or if its in a hot vehicle ... I always leave the air running. I know it might not be the safest thing, but it is practicle.

It's not safe to leave children unattended in a car. So many things could happen.

It would depend on the age though, I mean at what age would say it would be acceptable??

I personally think it depends on the maturity of the child... my son has never left his seat nor has he touched anything inappropriate...

If I saw the person leaving I would talk to them about it, if I just found the car with the baby in it I think I would call the cops. It's too dangerous, not just from the heat. I'm not sure what age I would say it's safe to leave the kid in the car, if there was an older kid (two kids) I might be more inclined but it would depend on the situation. Otherwise if the kid is old enough, why leave it at all instead of taking it in with you? It also depends on where the car is sitting. I would be more inclined to leave an older kid in a vehicle parked in the yard while I went back in the house or something, vs a running car at a gas station. The danger is not just from the car or the kid, there's also other cars that could hit it, or strangers opening the door, etc.

It would depend on the place and the age of the child. If it were say an 8-9 year old at the gas station while the parent runs inside to use the bathroom that's one thing. If it were a toddler left alone at Walmart or the mall I'd be calling the cops immediately.

I think it's interesting how we all have different views of whats acceptable.. InshAllah more people will become aware of those around them and less babies will lose their lives when people slow down.

An 8 or 9 year old I think would be a different story... I thought we were just talking infant up to preschool age
