No luckily that is not really a huge thing in the arab culture, we do have a problem in this comunity with the abusing of prescription meds though, they think that is ok b/c they are legal it is sad...
Oh WOW! That is rough, it is becoming a huge problem all over not just in arab communities.
My father is an alcoholic and so is his wife, my maternal grandmother was and so forth.... It has been the worst thing. My grandmother died in her 60's because of a stroke (alcohol related) my father destroyed his marriage to my mother and his wife destroyed so much that she touches because of her disease (of her mouth when she drinks, everyday)
We have decided (not just for religion) that we would not drink alcohol, DH has a drink every so often (once in 9 months maybe) however nothing is brought into the house.
Thank you Heather(hettyhoo) for my beautiful siggy

Most of my paternal family are drunks. They won't admit it, but some of them I've never seen without a beer or something in their hand. I cut them out of my life ages ago though so it isn't something I really worry about anymore.
Denial drunks are SO much worse! I don't see how they can even deny it when they're going through a six pack in a sitting. You'd think the cleanup alone would be some sort of a clue, but it's like they strive to achieve more.
