Do you ladies ever find it hard to navagate through the grocery stores??

Yesterday Sumaiya wanted princess gummis and I had to tell her no because they have gelatin in them (non-kosher type). So do you ladies ever get tired of having to read ingredients and double checking the foods you buy to ensure that you arent bringing non-halal/ non-islamic type ingredients into your home without thinking about it??

Most of what I buy lately doesn't have ingredients to worry about. Meat and veggies and such. Then I have all of my spices at home already. It does get frustrating when I do buy something with a list on it though. It's hard to make it through some of those lists without missing something, especially with kids helping. I remember one day I just grabbed a couple cheese pizzas and got home to find one was pepperoni. I'd just grabbed them where they were stacked one in front of the other and didn't see they weren't the same thing. So we had one pizza and the other was tossed.

During the summer I love shopping I do so much farm stand shopping however even things like cereal these days you have to look for gelatin, no pop tarts (Islam ask for) and some yogart or dips have gelatin in them too!

I love whole foods too, we dont have 1 aound here. We dont often feed the kids boxed foods however the kids LOVE eggos so things like strudel or baked eggos cinnamon rolls I have to check all the time.

I am pretty used to reading the ingredients lists by now, so that part doesn't bother me. It does annoy me the numerous things they put stuff like gelatin, or lard, or wine, in which really do NOT need to have it. And it annoys me if I accidentally miss something on the package and then I get home and notice the mistake, but that's my own fault

It's more irritating in restaurants, especially fish and chip places. I love fish and chips and chowder. However, fish and chips should NOT be battered in beer. Bacon does NOT belong in clam chowder. </end rant>

Just had another one of these recently, I bought some ice cream and it turned out it had wine in it! (it was chocolate flavored) I did scan the ingredients in the store but not close enough I guess, because I'd bought other (non-wine containing) flavors from the same brand before! :/

I had also started to mention it to my son if he asks for something in the store contains something haram, that we aren't going to buy it because it has pig meat in it, and we don't eat pig meat. I overheard him today saying (regarding a spelling word on the computer: HAM) Ham is yucky! We don't eat pigs! to my sister, who rolled her eyes at me (the rest of my family isn't muslim).

I love halal gummies myself! My son isn't as much a fan lol They can be hard to find though, the halal stores here seem to carry them sometimes but not other times. I am still hoping to find a halal version of the "circus peanuts" candy
