I went to the doctor today to book my 12 week bloodwork, and also to request an u/s for 8 weeks since I always decline the one at 12 weeks. I couldn't handle not seeing the baby at all until 20 weeks, so I always request one just to see if the baby is ok in there!
So anyway, she took a urine sample and as I was leaving she was dipping an HCG strip in there (pregnancy test). I asked her if I could wait and see the line, since I haven't tested since 10 dpo. So she dipped the strip in for literally a second, and took it out. We were chatting, and we were both noticing that no line was really coming up. Finally a faint line started coming up, and she said "whew, for a minute there I thought it was going to be negative!". So she said "it's pretty faint, but it will probably darken with time". I didn't want to stand there forever and seem totally obsessed so I left. I went directly across the street to the pharmacy where I bought a FRER - lol. I'm sorry, but I'm 5 weeks 1 day tomorrow, there should be a DARK line on there. I think it's because she didn't dip it long enough, it didn't absorb enough urine, but it was enough to make me super paranoid, so I'm testing in the morning!
Doc office tests are awful! I love my doc cause I went in on Monday to get my anticoagulant script and he said "I will just trust you since you're so early. There is no way our test will show it." So....Outta the mouth of a doc! Glad the FRER reassured you!
I bet she didn't know how to do the test or wasn't paying attention to the directions. All the tests I've seen in the stores that you dip ALWAYS have you dip it for more than just a second. You hold it in there basically until you start seeing the line of liquid being absorbed up into the results window. Or, you put 4 drops or 5 drops or however many into the little well...I would guess she didn't do it right and there wasn't much HCG on it because it was too little urine. One poster said her nurse did her pee test and told her it was negative even though there was a faint second line!
