I woke up Tuesday and knew right away that I was sick. Chest, head And sinus congestion were terrible. This is my first pregnancy illness (to the best of my knowledge) and it waited for my baby shower. I've rested, gone fluid crazy, lavaged my nose, even taken allowed OTC mess but nothing has broken it. After a few days with very little sleep and breathing issues I started taking my BP. Everything was ok until last night when it was 126/108. Scared to death needless to say I have pregnancy related hypertension but my doc has held off on the meds far. I had just an uwful night, now besides all these issues I'm having very intense ligament or muscle pain in my stomach and can't get out of bed unassisted. Called the doc first thing this morning and they are giving me a 5 day zpak and want me to stay on robutussin DM with fluids and rest. They think the pain is from all the coughing and sneezing. Any bump in BP or "slight" change in pain ill have to make the drive to L&D. I just can't believe how much harder it is to be sick and pregnant. Wish me luck, that I feel like myself for our shower.
Thanks,
Michelle

Hope you feel better soon! I've had a couple of colds since I've been pregnant and the no sleep/not being able to breathe thing is the worst! I'm sorry it had to happen on the eve of your shower!

Ugh that's AWFUL! I'm sorry. Hey at one point we had a list of OK meds to take in pregnancy, and I recall Afrin nasal spray being safe. I know when I had a really bad head cold/sinus thing that Afrin was my best friend...still is on the nights when my nose is just stuffy from being pregnant and I can't breathe properly through it. Have you tried that? I hope you can get some rest and be up to going to your shower!!

I know how you feel. Two of my showers are this weekend and I just had to call my midwife because of the cramping and back pain I have had.

Pregnancy and sickness are hitting hard this week

I've been following your story the last day or so. Glad you called, hope they check you out and everything is golden.

Oh no! That sucks. You know, the only thing that helped me with colds/congestion was the warm water with salt. I had a nasty cold in the first trimester and the solution saved me. Get better soon!

Oh no! I sure know that feeling! I was sick about a month ago with a sinus infection and broncitis. It took about 1 month to get better and 2 rounds of antibiotics. Im sorry you are sick and having a shower to boot. I know all I wanted to do was sleep and rest. I reccommend doing a nasle spray and use a humidifier at night. I had to sit up to sleep but using those 2 things helped me a little. I hope you feel better soon and try and enjoy your party. If you can, stay home and rest until you are almost 100%. Lots of fluids and REST.

That sounds rough. Sorry you feel sick and that the timing is so bad. I got sick for the first time this pregnancy two Sundays ago. Just a stuffy nose and sinus headaches but it is hard to deal with! I did end up taking sudafed a couple of times because I didn't want to use a lot of sick time. Have you tried it at all? It didn't really do much to get rid of the stuffiness (I actually still have it ) but it did give temporary relief for a few hours which helped me get through the work day and to sleep better.

By the way, when is your shower? Mine is tomorrow and they are calling for snow. Ugh!!

I have a huge fear of Sudifed, with the hypertension I fear it'll raise my BP.
Shower is tomorrow and I'm going if they have to take me by ambulance. Calling for snow here in Chicago also, but looks like a dusting.
Happy shower to you!!!

I feel you and am so sorry it's all happening just before your shower. I'm worried about taking Sudafed right now too. I took it a few weeks ago the first time I had this sinus mess and it did help, but I'm scared to touch it now with my bp being borderline and the protein. Hope you get to feeling better soon and you aren't miserable for your shower tomorrow.
