I had another ultrasound today, to check on Kody's kidneys. His left one, which is the one that is double, looks the same, but the right one looks more backed up/dilated. Last time the ureter on that side was not dilated and now it is dilated. Good news though is that the bladder looks normal, so he is able to pee ok, and the amniotic fluid looks normal too which backs up that theory that he is peeing normally. Now I just need to wait for OHSU to schedule a meeting with a perinatologist, a neonatologist, and the urologist. Hoping to get that scheduled within a week or two. I'd like to know what to expect!
The doc did mention the possibility of Kody getting a VCUG after he is born...it stands for voiding cystourethrogram. I've had one myself and they're not all that fun. Basically you lay there, they cath you, and shoot some saline and dye up into your bladder and then have you go pee so they can watch it come out to make sure there's no problems or reflux happening. I really hope he doesn't have to have that happen. Would NOT be fun for a newborn! If they do have to do it, I kinda hope they knock him out for it!
Poor baby. With my first he had a blocked urethra. After he was born, they gave him a sono and it corrected itself. Maybe some issues will correct itself when he is born as well. I also had that thing done where the inject the kidneys with saline about 15 years ago. I had a blockage that I didnt know about which was causing blood in my urine. It was one of the most unpleasant feelings I can remember so I know what you mean. Hope you can get some answers and know more what to expect by the time he gets here. Sorry you have to go through this.
I'm sorry these issues are so ever present. It's so great though that you and Kody and getting care so soon for this. It won't be a surprise when he's born, and everything can be taken care of. I hope he doesn't have to have that procedure.
Thank you ladies for all your concern and support! It was really sweet to log in and see all the replies. Made me feel a little better
I'm pretty worried about him, even though I know this is all good that they're taking it so seriously and getting everything arranged beforehand. I feel bad too because he inherited this from me, so in a way, it's kind of my fault. Definitely makes me question whether it's a good idea to have any more kids. Poor baby, he shouldn't have to be traumatized right off the bat. But, then again, the procedure is just a possibility at this point, I sure hope in the upcoming weeks that his kidneys get better.
Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers, it means a lot to me. And thanks for not thinking I'm overreacting about this, I feel like I shouldn't be so worried when there are a lot worse things that can happen. But as his mama, I can't help but worry for him.
