hey ladies, quick question. i've noticed an increase in vaginal discharge the last week or so. it's not pink/bloody at all, but it is of the slightly thicker (sometimes, but not always, thick and mucousy) variety. also, it isn't a lot (in the respect that it isn't soaking through panty liners), just a definite increase.

i'm going to bring it up at my appointment on wednesday, but i'm curious what other people's experiences is with this?? i can't say i'm super concerned since it's a common symptom of the third trimester, but if it IS my mucous plug (uh, how does that work, anyway? all at once or gradually???), does that mean anything??

by the way, i'm 35 weeks 3 days

I'm experiencing the same thing. It happened with my son too. I lost my whole mucous plug with him at my 39 week appt. Had him about ten days later.

I sometimes have an increase in CM too. It seems to fluctuate. It's definitely more while pregnant than when not pregnant.
From what I understand your mucous plug is a thick piece of CM, you can lose part or all of it at once. I have heard that if you lose it but baby is not ready to be born, your body will replace it. So it doesn't necessarily indicate labor is coming, but it can be an indicator.
Could just be the upswing in hormones that we get in the 3rd tri is contributing to your body producing more CM.

Yup! I've had the same thing going on for a while now though nothing super heavy or anything. I think once I see a "glob" I might panic a little bit lol, but for the most part just throwing on a pantiliner seems to keep things manageable ;P.

IME your plug is noticably different than regular CM so theres no question when you lose it what it is. I lost mine at one time when I was 39 werks a few days before my watwr broke.

This... I lost a big chunk of plug about a month ago and your body just regenerates it if it's not ready to go into labor.

Also, the further along you get, the.... uh... gooier you'll probably get. Sorry.

Me too! I hate it, I find it disgusting.

Also, for those ladies who lost their plug, what does it look like? I have no idea, since my labor started with my water breaking. Thanks.

It's delightfully known by me and my friends as "swamp crotch." Lol

But I'll be the antithesis of others. I never noticed losing my mucus plug either time. I had a bloody show, which is the last bit of your plug as you start to dilate (the blood is generally indicative of dilation happening). But mine apparently came out both times without me knowing it. It was just thicker, increased CM in the later weeks. No distinctive glob or anything, even with the bloody show it was normal mucus with blood. So I am no help in that dept.

Hahaha yeah the term "swamp crotch" is a favorite of mine, although I usually use it more when there's just a lot of sweat from exercise or heat. Thank god I managed to shave everything recently, so I feel a little "cooler" now at least.

Wow how did you do that? I'm jealous! LOL I have to have DH shave me now if I want it done. It's quite a chore, even with him doing it!

Wizardry? Luck? I have no idea. I thought I had given up weeks ago because I can't see anything down there...but out of sheer desperation I went at it first with some clippers (scary!!!!) then a day or two later with a razor in the shower... totally blind.

OMG I am rolling from this convo

The best way I can describe it is it's a good-sized mucus clump but it's not as watery or gooey as regular CM is. You can poke and prod at it and while it will move it will quickly go back to it's original form to stay in one big clump---kinda like Flubber. LOL. It's hard to explain but once you see it you'll know it's different than anything you normally see.
