Ugh hopefully this is the last time I have to change my plans for where I'm going to deliver. Originally I was going to deliver at the hospital that is 5 minutes away from us. Then when they found out the baby had kidney issues they wanted me to go up to OHSU to deliver (because the Doernbecher's Childrens Hospital is part of the OHSU campus). Now I got a call from the lady who is helping coordinate the baby's care and she said my insurance won't pay for me to deliver at OHSU, because the nearby hospital I was originally going to go to has the services that OHSU was recommending for the baby (ultrasound, xrays, etc).
In a way I'm kinda glad I'm going back to the nearby hospital, because it's so close and convenient, and OHSU is really hard to get to and could take 45 min to an hour to get there in traffic. So this means I can labor at home as long as I want and don't have to be worried I won't be able to make it to the hospital in time. I just hope everything works out for Kody for the best, as far as him getting the best care.

Wow, what a roller coaster! I hope it all works out well. Nothing like waiting til the last minute...don't they realize you *could* have already delivered at a non-covered hospital. They should have mentioned that back a few weeks!!

I'm such a planner that this would frustrate me. However I"m really glad that you get to end up at the hospital very close to home. That would be my choice as well. The hospital we're delivering at this time is about an hour away so I totally understand that inconvenience and worry about not laboring as home as long as I'd like to get there on time as well. So ultimately it sounds like it worked out in your favor which is great!

That's what my thought was! I was like jeez, I'm glad I didn't go into labor any sooner! I suppose the responsibility falls to me to double check that I'd be covered, but I sort of thought they were taking care of that. I did call OHSU like a month ago and asked if they took my insurance, and they said they bill all insurances, they don't refuse anyone...I guess I should have taken that as, I need to check myself to see if it would be covered. Oh well! Hindsight!

But yes this does seem to be the best in the end, so in a way I'm kinda glad I will go to the closer hospital.

Him getting the best care is whats most important. I think in the long run this hospital would be better for him. Its good that they are considering where you will deliver in relation to Kody's kidney problems. It will all work out.

Yay that you get to stay home longer!

I'm actually really nervous about laboring at home. Last time I was induced and I just labored there overnight. The hospital where I'll deliver is 30-45 minutes away depending on traffic (and how fast DH is gonna drive), so I'm freakin' out a little bit about timing my arrival just right. I don't wanna get there too early and I definitely don't wanna get there too late!

Joy, that's great you will be closer! I want to labor at home too, since I'm GBS negative this time, but I'm worried about making it in time to my hospital...it's 25 min without traffic, but up to 45 min with traffic! Eek!

Purrrr, I'm with you, Kary too...I want to be at home as long as I can but that's a scary prospect when the hospital is some distance away!
