I had my membranes stripped the morning after my 38wk apptmt where the doc and I learned I was already 5-6cm dilated . (I was 7cm dilated by then.) All I remember was that the procedure was REALLY uncomfortable =/. I did end up delivering DS later that evening, but I'm not sure if it was due to having my membranes stripped or the fact that I was so far dilated already and being given pitocin along with having my bag of waters broken lol. I don't think that I'd request to have my membranes stripped again, but if I'm far enough along and everything has been checking out well with baby, I might be open to the option if my doc were to suggest it .

I don't remember it being painful at all. I do remember pushing an almost 9 lb baby out drug free, and THAT was painful lol

I will only have it done a day or two before my scheduled induction. I don't want pitocin at all costs this time, so I'll try anything that might kick start natural labor. If induction wasn't looming, I wouldn't do it.

I didn't read through all of the responses, so if I'm repeating anyone here I'm sorry. From what I understand, it's unlikely to push you into labor if you were nowhere close to begin with. If you're teetering on the edge of labor anyways, it can give you a few days head start.

My BFF had it done with 2 of hers. Both times she dilated more within the hour of being swept (she was checked before and an hour afterwards at the doc). With one of them she was in labor that evening, with the other it took a few days.

sounds like you're a perfect candidate maybe you could try closer to a week before your induction? or are you planning to be induced right at 37 weeks? if you can do anything to help your cervix ripen on its own up until then, you'll increase your odds of it helping.

i might give it a try, but probably not until closer to 40-41 weeks.
