Aside from taking DS back to the hospital for a few check ups during his first week, we didn't actually take him out in the general public/store until he was at least 2wks old. With this baby I'd like to also wait at least 2wks before really taking her anywhere, but with all my family flying in and DS still in baseball I have a feeling she'll be making her way outdoors a little sooner than anticipated =/. I'm sure I'll be hovering over her and completely anal with the hand sanitizer like I was with DS, though, to try and cut down on the germs so hopefully that'll help ease some of my anxiety ".
I asked the pediatrician about this specifically. He said that it should be about 6-8 weeks before we take him out around large groups that will want to hug and kiss on him like work, church and family gatherings. He said stores and such were fine because nobody will want to touch him and if you drape a light blanket over them it will keep them safer from germs.
DD was born in January so it was hard to get out much. DH's birthday was 9 days after she was born and we went out for dinner for his birthday. I get bored being at home too so I'm hoping to get out more with the nice weather in May.
We pretty much go right away. I also put the baby in a wrap or sling and than people hardly notice the little one, or if they do, don't touch. I would recommend getting something like that just for that reason.
Jesus loving, homeschooling, gardening lover, devoted wife to a wonderful hubby and 10 kids, ages 13 down to 12.5 months . We are expecting number 11 due January 1st, 2015.
Thanks for all of the responses. She has her first appt Friday so maybe we'll go to Target and lunch or something after just to get out and see how it goes. It's been cold the last few mornings here so I wouldn't take her out right now anyway, but after being inside for a month now it's time to do something.
