...when you're pregnant just never cease to amaze me! Just now:
Weird Whole Foods Lady: So...do you have a midwife?
Lady: When I was training to be one, I had a patient who gave birth and then we put her placenta in a stew and all ate it.
Um...okay. Thanks for that. Something to consider. Only in LA! Is it just me or at this point in your pregnancy are you regularly questioned by total strangers inquiring about your pregnancy? I'm convinced it's only because they really want to talk about themselves--their own pregnancies, kids, views on eating placentas...
Oh my! Yes I think that must be it, that people ask you about your pregnancy just so they can interject something about theirs.
So they put her placenta in a stew and they ALL ate it???? That's just a bit much. I'm surprised she wasn't concerned that you might vomit all over her.
Lol ewww, I'm glad I don't have to deal with people saying weird stuff like that to me. Even if they did, I don't know the Japanese word for "placenta," so I wouldn't know what they were saying. Yesterday a nice older lady came up to me and almost touched my belly and asked how far along I was, said congratulations, and left. That's about all I've had to deal with.
LOL I was just talking about this to DH today. I can't tell you how many people have contacted me today alone telling me how I need to have sex to get baby out...and some go into a bit more detail then I'd prefer. One of which is my mom's hairdresser I've met once. So odd!!
Your story beats all tho, that's hilariously random and disturbing. While I'm aware some people choose to do that, I wouldn't be going around flaunting it But someone else's placenta!?!? Ewww!!!!
Um....yum? Did she expect you would lick your lips and ask her to please become your midwife and make placenta stew? Freak!
I certainly don't care if someone wants to eat their placenta. But randomly talking about it to someone in the grocery store is so far outside normal behavior, I have to wonder if she is stable
I don't get anything nearly that disturbing. Mostly run-of-the-mill stuff. But around here...no one does that "natural birth" thing. So I guess all the "fun" stuff like placenta digestion and the nutritional values of the umbilical cord are not gonna come up. Bummer!
