I was wondering the same thing. Who has the answer? What to expect at 6 week?

Yes, they usually check things out just like a yearly appt. I would mention you are still very sore and either request a small speculum and gentle hands or ask if you can postpone an internal for another couple weeks.

My doc is generally very gentle at the postpartum appts, since they know you are still in recovery mode and they also don't know what issues they might find (like with my first, my internal stitches healed to each other...like basically stitching one side of my vag to the other). So hopefully they will be careful. Mostly they do just a quick check, no actual Pap smear or poking around on your ovaries. They just check your stitched areas and make sure everything is healing up nicely.

Good luck! Hope it goes smoothly.

Mine with DS wasn't even with the Dr., it was a NP and she just looked and used a finger for a real quick check to make sure all the stitches were dissolved/fell out (they had and she said it didn't even look like I'd had an episiotomy), no speculum or scraping anything. By 6 weeks you should be in pretty decent shape again, probably better than you think, so hopefully it's not too bad!

Ash, my cousin just had that happen too with the stitches - I imagine that doesn't happen a lot!

After we had baby #6, when I went to my pp checkup, I was pregnant with number 7! So be careful, hehe. They are 10 months apart.

Im sure most doctors understand what a sensitive area that is. I hope it goes well!

They only do a pap if it's been a yr since your last one. At lest here they do, so im sure you will get one. It's not really that bad.

Joy- it went not too bad- I told my doctor I was still super sore so she was extra gentle, she first used fingers then just stuck the speculum in only a little bit. She just needed to make sure the stitches inside had healed.

Glad it's over though- I hate that stuff!
