Thomas is a month old today! I thought I'd finally share his birth story.
I was due May 14.
on april 29 I was 1cm and my doctor stripped my membranes.
on May 1 at 6:30pm my water broke, but labor didn't start. I called the hospital to tell them my water broke and to find out what they wanted me to do, and they said to come down so they can officially test the fluid so they can book an induction in case labor never starts on its own. we went down and they booked me for an induction at 6:30pm on May 2.
Labor never started, so in we went to be induced. my birth plan was to do it naturally, like my last birth, but things don't always go as planned. for instance, I had definitely NOT planned to be induced, but it is what it is. so anyway, they are super busy in the birth until and it is after midnight (Friday, May 3, 12:15am) before they finally hook me up to the pitocin. a few hours later I was STILL only 1cm!!!
active labor started around 7am (about 7 hours after the pit drip started, and about 36 hours after my water broke) and by 7:30 I was only 3cm and we had been up for 24 hours, we were exhausted. my body couldn't handle it anymore, and I still had so far to go, so I gave in to the epidural. best decision I ever made. it relaxed my body enough to help it dilate and do what it was supposed to do. I went from 3-10 in 2 hours. I told the nurse I was feeling a TON of pressure so she checked and I was complete, but she said he was still really high up and needed to come down before I could push, and I said "no, he's ready, I need to push" and she says "okay, why don't you do a practice push" so I pushed one time and he was crowning. she freaked and ran to the hall and yelled for a doctor, doc came in and said I could push again and he was born in two contractions and 5 minutes of pushing.
so once labor really kicked in he was born in 2.5 hours, but the process to get me to go into labor was a long one. and I had 2nd degree tears, ouch!
so Thomas James was born on Friday, May 3, at 9:31am weighing 7 lbs 12 oz and 19.75" long
here's a pic of him after he was born:
and here's a recent one:
Rebecca (11/22/07), Nathan (7/31/10), and Thomas (5/3/13)
He is the first baby I have ever seen born with truly blonde hair...and so much of it. So unique (all the babies I know are either born with just a bit of blonde or a ton of dark...not a ton of blonde).
The best laid plans....lol.
I am glad it worked out really well in the end and your dude entered safe and sound.
