Wow that's nuts! I'm glad you're following up on it, because that hospital should NOT have gotten that much money out of a vaginal birth with a one day stay. It should have definitely been something like 10K or less (my guess). That is so crazy! I'm interested to hear what you find out, if you want to post about it later!
I never even saw the full bill this tome but I remember for my first birth (c-section) the full bill was like $38,000 and we paid $500. I work in insurance. I know its a PITA sometimes but thank God for it!!!!
I can't remember exactly what my bill was, somewhere between 10 and 15 thousand, I think. My insurance is awesome though. I didn't even have to pay a deductible. I'm going to miss that if I leave my job to be a SAHM.
This post is actually surprisingly upsetting to me. We are in Canada, so no bills... in fact we are even encouraged to give birth in the US (because of where we live) and it's all paid for! We opted not to for personal reasons and drove farther for the delivery in Canada. I couldn't even imagine having to deal with the stress of hospital bills after having a baby.
Even those of you who have "Awesome insurance" you pay what $100-$200/month for that?
We are what I would consider very financially stable(we spend freely with few worries about money, but I would seriously reconsider when/if I were to have children if I had to pay for it! And now that I have this amazing little man in my life, that thought completely breaks my heart! I feel for you mamas!
