Ugggggghhhhhh, I've been SO careful to pump and avoid getting too full. I don't know why I have a blocked duct right now, maybe because last night I slept on my stomach for a bit, but it HURTS. I noticed my left breast was tender this morning, then when I started pumping the letdown really hurt. As I was massaging to get all the milk out, it was really hurting on the left side, so I'm sure that's where the clog is. I REALLY hope this doesn't lead to mastitis, because I don't have time for that! How do you get a clog out????
Moist heat, lots of rest, and plenty of liquids. Usually a clog is a sign you need to take things easier. Take a hot shower and direct the water on it while you massage. Or use a hot, wet washcloth and apply to the area and keep changing out the cloth so it stays warm. Do this right before pumping and hopefully the wet heat will clear it. Sometimes it can take all day.
With my first, I got about 5 clogs within the first 6 months. Luckily, they never led to mastitis. I became somewhat of a clog expert
Yes, what Kary said. I have gotten a ton of clogs (and mastitis twice), but I will usually sit in a hot bath for a long time, leaning over and massaging the clog out, towards the nipple. I do it for as long as I can stand or until it feels like the clog is gone. I hope it clears up for you quickly! It's definitely not fun at all.
I don't know if it's a clog or mastitis. It REALLY really hurts, even with Advil. I made a dr's app't to get her to look at it. I have a cut in that nipple that just refuses to heal - any little thing makes it bleed. If it is mastitis, that's probably how/why I got it.
Shame! I had one for about a day a little while ago and it is so painful! I took an anti-inflammatory and put a hot water bottle on that side for hours. I then let LO drink from that side... I know you pump but I aimed his chin towards the block and he got it right out. I felt another one starting a few days later and got the hot water bottle on it right away and it clears up right away. I am holding thumbs that it isn't mastitis and clears up quickly!
