Today was our appointment to apply for Kaeldra's passport. I was dreading it a little because we had to travel 2 hours away and wasn't sure how long it would take once we got there. Thank goodness Kaeldra stayed pretty happy most of the day. The consulate was right next to a really nice park and we got there early, so we walked around the park and fed some koi fish before heading to our appointment. No one else was at the consulate, so they let us go in a little early and it didn't take very long. Now all we need to do is acquire and send in a certified copy of Kaeldra's birth certificate (the copy we had wasn't stamped directly, so they couldn't accept it), then wait for them to process the paperwork! Then I can finally take Kaeldra to meet my family. It's too bad we didn't feel like we could spend a little more time exploring the city, especially since traveling there was so expensive, but we left the apartment at 9:30 a.m. and didn't get back until 5:30 p.m., not to mention I didn't get to bed until 3 a.m. and was up at 7:30! Glad our long day is done. Is anyone else planning to get a passport for their baby?

We're not planning on any international travel this year, so we will not be getting one yet. In a couple of years, we will need to get one, because we have some family in Germany and would like to visit and travel a little.

How do you fix the issue of the birth certificate being stamped correctly?? That's odd they didn't do it right in the first place. Annoying.

We just have to go back to our local city hall and ask for a certified copy. The copy we have now is a copy of their stamp, so I don't know how that happened without them giving us the actual certified copy! I knew we'd probably have trouble with it, so I actually called the consulate ahead of time to ask them what I should do, and they said it would be okay to just mail it in later. I would have been really unhappy to go that far and have to return just because of something like that.

I am so excited for you that you get to see your family soon!

We don't have any plans for international travel but I'm sure we will someday.

So, Kim, when's the big trip? I'm sure your family is dying to meet Kaeldra!

They are! I was really hoping to visit in August/September, but when I called to book the appointment to apply for the passport , they weren't available until just yesterday. I told them I was hoping to travel by the 1st of November and they said the paperwork usually takes 4-6 weeks, so they might be able to process it by then, but there are no guarantees. I may need to purchase a ticket that will allow me to change the date if I need to. I'm upset I have to travel in the winter now because I probably won't be bringing my cat back with me like I was planning (they advise not to travel with pets in harsh weather, i.e. summer or winter months).
