Memi, breastfeeding doesn't have to end with solids! Don't be sad, you can still go as long as you like!

I'm not doing cereals bc I don't have pumped breastmilk to mix in and due to the arsenic concern in rice. Like others have said, there is not much nutritional value in them. I'm also starting solids later so I want to just jump right in with fruits and veggies. I might add cereal later, we'll see.

Thanks Kary and no worries I dont plan to stop nursing anytime soon!! Its funny how excited I was for my first baby to get to tgese developmental milestones but with my second I hate it! I guess I know how fast it slips by now and just want him to be my little baby forever.

Good to know about the rice. Thanks for letting me know ladies. I had no idea!!

I know what you mean about the milestones - I want Lexi to stay my baby forever too! I also asked my pedi about the whole arsenic in rice thing. She said everything in moderation. She would not do rice cereal everyday. That's when discussion turned to we don't really need to start with cereal.

We gave my son his first banana today, but I blended it so it was not chunky. He is five months, but not able to sit up yet, holds his head up, but won't sit up on his own. Anyway he has two teeth and has started to get very interested when others are eating. So today when I was eating some of my banana he tried to grab it so rather than him choke I blended it and fed it to him to see what he though and he seemed to like it. Technically our doctor doesn't want us to feed him until six months. So I don't think we will rush to get baby food, but probably give him a blended banana once in a while. I just feel like he is constantly starving and formula is not filling him up.

We just started getting into solids with Kody. I found that sweet potatoes and squash are really easy on his tummy. For some reason the bananas and applesauce made his reflux worse. Weird, because I thought bananas are the most gentle on their tummies. However, I was using Gerber, and they do add ascorbic acid to keep the bananas and apples from browning, so maybe that was bothering him. Anyway, he eats 3 square meals a day now! Well, actually, they're rectangular...

Just found this article on what to feed and when and thought it was very helpful:

It's funny how every pedi is different with the introducing solids run down. Mine told me to introduce foods of the same color, so carrots one week, sweet potato the next, etc. This was two years ago with my son so she may say different at A's next well check.

Memi, I totally understand! When A rolled over I cried a little bit. Once these milestones start they don't stop, and they get more and more independent every day. I think she is starting to get her first tooth and I hate it, this will be the last gummy grin I get to see and I want everything "baby" to last as long as possible.
