You don't need to cook it. Just blend with milk.

No, we haven't done anything yet. She's VERY interested though. I'll probably start around 5 1/2 months, maybe 6.

We're actually starting 2nd foods today after we go to the store. Avery loves her solids. My grandma even fed her regular oatmeal the other day while I was at work and she did fine.

Claire is still pretty young, so we've got a while yet. I'm planning on holding off until at least 5 and a half months, hopefully 6. She does stare hard-core when we eat, though.

I'm thinking we'll start off with a pureed veggie...maybe sweet potatoes? Or avocado. Haven't decided yet! I think we're going to skip cereal completely.

Grady loves his solids! He enjoys veggies more than fruits. Squash and carrots are his fav. I mostly buy the plum organic brand that comes in the pouches.

Besides rice and oatmeal cereals I just gave Remy avocados. I just mushed it up and gave it to him without adding milk. Yesterday I baked one large sweet potato. I took out all the meat and put it in the blender, added water and I now have enough sweet potato to last him about 1 weeks worth of meals. He LOVED the sweet potato. I just bought a butternut squash. im going to bake that as well and try seeing if he likes it. after the squash, I think I will try green beans then applesauce with the apples we get from the orchards. im having so much fun trying new foods with him.

I've tried giving solids a few times, avocado, banana, applesauce, and he loved them. But he was fussier and slept more poorly each time. So I'm holding off for now until we can see an allergist.

We haven't started any solids yet! Pure laziness on my part! I bought some organic Gala apples so I might make applesauce soon, but I probably will end up waiting until 6 months exactly.

We haven't started either. We're waiting until he can sit up well unassisted. He just starting sitting up on Saturday (5m 11 days). We will probably old off until he has t down around 6.5 or 7months. What does everyone suggest for 1st foods? We are not doing cereals.

We aren't doing cereal either. With my first daughter I did peas first, and she loved it (I make my own). I always start with veggies.

Brock started at 51/2 months, only carrots and applesauce so far and very little bits. We are not doing cereals either and will take solids more seriously after 6 months.

We do two meals of solids a day. We use the 2nd stage Gerber containers. He gets a veggie with oatmeal cereal in the morning, and a fruit with rice cereal in the afternoon. He loves everything!

The Dr recommended we do rice cereal first, then veggies. Chase loves the veggies. I'm not crazy about giving cereal, so I usually just do veggies at night for now. He loves sweet potatoes, carrots, and squash so far. I'm going to try peas soon. I won't do any fruit for a few weeks yet. I'm sure he will love them. Any time we eat, Chase reaches for what we have and yells at us, lol

Just curious - why are some not wanting to do cereals at all? Wasn't sure if there was a reason that it was not good.

I just gave Roman his first taste of baby cereal on Monday. It was super liquid with most breastmilk but he seemed to get the hang of opening his mouth for the spoon towards the end. I'm honestly not super excited about introducing foods so I'm doing it veeeeeeeery slowly. I wanted to nurse DS1 sooo badly and it didn't work out and just broke my heart so I've really really cherished this EBF time I have gotten with Roman. I guess I'm just not ready for it to end.

I'm not doing cereals either. I don't think they are bad, just not necessary. I'm also not crazy about processed foods. I wouldn't be making my own cereal for him, so I am just choosing not to use them. My understanding is that it is essentially made up of carbs and aded iron, so not a ton of nutritional value. I'm sure it might help him sleep longer, but that'll come in another month or two when he's eating other foods. We are doing BLW so we'll start after 6 mo. Here provincial health has started recommending meat as a first food because of the iron. I plan on starting with "avocado fingers" then moving on pretty quick to other foods including meats.

Memi- obviously people have different reasons (low nutritional value being a major one), but we're skipping rice cereal due to my arsenic concern (arsenic in rice).

We've given Misha oatmeal with breastmilk (my husband and I eat loads of oatmeal, so we figure the baby should get used to it now), banana, orange, and nectarine (his favorite, definitely). Next up are avocados, sweet potatoes, and buckwheat.
