I know some of you were thinking about getting the copper IUD. I had it put in on Friday. According to a friend who had the mirena put in a few months ago I would be numbed up for this. Haha. Guess every doctor is different. This is how it went girls.....
I went into the exam room and had to get undressed. The OB first put in that thing that keeps you open just like in paps. Then she used some solution to cleans in there. Then she made a cut up there in the uterus and that only felt like a pinch. Then she used this long thin pole thing to put it up there and popped it in. OMG. I'm not going to lie. It sucked. I had horible cramping right away. I had the girls at my mom and dads about a mile away and god thing b/c I couldnt have driven any further. I've still got a little cramping and spotting, but its about done. Thank god for ibuprofen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh no..I am soooo scared..Let's put it this way..I don't even like the thing that they use to open you up..(the duck) i hate that thing i almost cry when they are putting it in...OH NO!!!!!!! I don't want to do it..I am so confused!!! What do i do?????? Sorry it sucked and thanks for sharing the TRUTH...Thank God for the ibupofen..lol
yikes!! that sound pretty scary! but it sounds better than another c-section! thanks for letting us know how it went. i guess i'll have to keep telling myself that a liitle bit of pain is worth 10 years of BC!
I got the mirena about 2 months after I had AaLiyah and I went it and they used the duck thing and then the doctor put it in and I there was a little pinch and I was done..I was so scared though and I was waiting for more pain..but it was not to bad for me!! I had cramps for a couple of days but all in all..I will get it done again after the 5 years or after I have another baby!!
I might be thinking this way if and when I have another baby. Not sure though. I absolutely HATE that thing they put in you during paps. It hurts me so bad. How long does it take?
I have had my copper IUD for exactly a year tomorrow
it is a little uncomfortable when they insert it, but I think it's all about your personal pain threshold, as to HOW uncomfortable it is. I had some AF type cramps afterward, but nothing that some painkillers didn't fix!
I DID have some spotting & cramping on & off for the next month, but after that it's all been fine!
And like has been said, for 5 years contraception it's worth it (for me)
my mirena didn't hurt one bit! of course i was 6 weeks post partum after having caliah. i was worried that being that early after having had had her would cause lots of pain, but nope. i did as my ob suggested. he told me to take some vicodin (he even gave me a prescription! TALK TO YOUR OB, I AM SURE THEY WOULD DO IT TOO!) i took the vicodin an hr before the procedure...so maybe that is why i didn't feel a thing.
mine only took, seriously, like 10 minutes. i was in there for a half hour cuz i was signing consent forms. and she went over the procedure with me. plus, i had to get it done when i had my period. so it was a bit messy...but nothing they've never dealt with! she cut it to my liking, and told me that if dh felt it after our first intercourse, she'd cut it more, but they can only cut it a certain length because we must check for it periodically...anyway...and taking it out was just as easy...but, i won't ever do that mirena ever again. i've already written my horrible experience...but it works for most people, it just wasn't for me!
and i meant, that they cut the string that you use to check to make sure your iud is in place! they didn't cut my uterus to my liking...just wanted to clarify. lol
Uh, huh I've BTDT and it really did suck! The cramping/pain was terrible, ugh! I had mine removed to TTC Lexie and I'm seriously considering getting another JIC but....it sucked, lol, so I've been putting it off.

First i didn't want to get it cuz my cousin got pregnant even though she had the IUD, and now that you shared this with us now i have another excuse on not getting it.
I wasn't trying to scare you all. I know there were a few people who were thinking about it. My experience could have been all in the way my OB put it in too. I feel fine now. Just some spotting but I've been using pantiliners. I am looking forward to not having to think about contraception for 5 years. Yey!
Gee Gracie, if I would have had vicoden beforehand I might not have minded the whole thing. Hehe!
So moral of the story....take meds prior and have a driver!
