Can those of you who had your gallbladder removed tell me your experience? I want to go into the surgery and have some idea of what to expect for the procedure and for recovery. I'm thinking I will be off work a week, but I guess it depends.

Thanks Ladies!!!

I wish I could tell you something...I was in so much pain by the time I went into the ER the night before that they kept me on morphine until time for the surgery the next day. All I remember is lying on the gurney waiting to go into the OR and panicking because I knew I had a 3-week-old baby out in the waiting room. Thank goodness a good friend's mom worked in the OR and helped calm me down.

So all I remember is going into the OR and getting the mask on my face...they told me to start counting backward from 10 and I don't remember 7. After that, I woke up back in my own room - a little groggy, but it wore off fast. They kept me on pain meds while I was in the hospital, then sent me home with something...it was either Tylenol w/codeine or Darvocet (I had both, can't remember which was from R's birth and which was from surgery.) Anyway, once I was home, I never needed it.

Mine was laparoscopic, so I had several small incisions - four, I think. The biggest was in my bellybutton, which was packed with gauze and that was just WEIRD. But they never hurt much and healed up fairly quickly. They did leave scars, though...

That's it. Hope yours is quick and uneventful!

I think mine is going to be like that. He mentioned 4 holes...one by the bellybutton and 3 in the breast-ish area.

My bellybutton will be packed with gauze?? Oh man!!!! That's gonna feel weird.

Mine wasnt as nice. I had the same type done. I was in alot of pain, went in and I don't do well with being put under (takes me alot longer to come around and my pulse ox levels go way down) anyway. I came to and was in ALOT of pain. When I sat up with nurses help to use the bathroom I almost passed out (scared the nurse so bad), It was a good week of alot of pain after for me. I was on 2-3 different pain meds (Vicodin, and some others) after the first week I felt alot better. I had alot of shoulder pain after as well (which is normal from what my dr told me). I hope your experience is alot nicer then mine.

I had a co-worker mention the shoulder pain. It's from the CO2 they use to inflate you. The doc said I will look pregnant but not be.

Seems so far what my co-workers have said seem to be correct. Most had laprascopic surgery, but one was cut open (it was waaaaaaaaay back in the day).

I don't have any experience either. But I know two people who have had it done and after getting over the initial discomfort and pain they both felt better than they have in years. Good luck!
