I'm sure most of you have heard on the news that the US government is changing their recommendations for mammograms. The current recommendation is to start getting them at age 40. This is supported by the American Cancer Society. However, now the government is saying they dont think mammograms are necessary until a woman reaches age 50. Here's an article on FoxNews about it. What do you all think about this?

I really don't know...it's another one of those things that I'm going to have to research to death. Some sources claim that mammograms do more harm than good anyway. I'm pretty clueless so far.

Hmm. I used to work at a cancer center. Breast cancer in younger women is more rare but when it occurs it usually tends to be more aggressive and scary. That makes it so important to catch it early.

Whether mammograms actually catch them...that's up for debate I think. I do personally know several younger women who only found out about their breast cancer through mammograms and were able to get it treated before it spread.

But there has to be a better way of screening. I think it's barbaric that they try to squeeze your boobs completely flat to detect cancer.

They would never do that to testicles!

I was reading something that said that it's the density of breast tissue that's a marker for breast cancer - but I guess that's what mammograms screen for? I don't know. I have a few years before I HAVE to know, which is why I haven't started researching already. But oh my, I hope there's a better way by then!

Sara!

I am pretty sure the study was NOT done by the government but by an independant group of scientists.

I am torn, I have 2 friends in thier 30's who have/had BC. Both were detected though early mamograms.

Seems funny to me that the medical feild will concern itself with unnecessary redaition but wont hardly address the toxins in vaxs....

I'm not American, but of course, everything that happens down there effects us up here, and it's all over our news as well. I think it's ridiculous that anyone feels the right to decide this for women. I also think it's ridiculous that they change the reccomendations whenever they feel like it. Early detection saves A LOT of women's lives, and I don't know why anyone would want to mess with that.

There was also a doctor on earlier saying that self exams are unnecessary at a young age!
