Do you ever eat foods past their best before dates? Not expiry dates, just best before.

I am a massive germaphobe so that would be a big NO for me. I am always afraid that my kids or I will get sick from it. Like milk has a best if used by date, but you definitely won't see me drinking that.

If it smells good and looks good, then yes.

For milk, I am a freak. No, I wouldn't.
For other food, if I haven't opened it yet, yes.
But if I have, and it's been sitting in my fridge for more than a couple of days, then no...
And also, if it smells...that's a huge no.

I've always been told that milk is good for a week past the Best Before date. A few days past would be pushing it. I make sure to sniff it really well and take a little taste before I pour a bowl of cereal or a glass of milk.

And as for everything else... if it looks fine and doesn't smell "off" then I will eat it (within reason! and never more than a week past the date stamped on the container)

Not usually. I'm kind of a germ-a-phobe too. Especially when it comes to dairy products

I don't drink milk, but wouldn't use it if it's past the date. When I do buy it, I go through the cooler and get the farthest out date I can find.

For anything else I probably would use it if it was just a day or 2 past the date and looked and smelled ok.

I will for veggies and that sort of thing as long as they don't look or smell bad. Not dairy products though, even the smell of sour milk makes me gag so I just couldn't handle that.

With as cold as our fridge is, that is usually not a issue. Plus, we go through milk and stuff like that so fast, it doesn't even get near that date.

We are pretty good about using stuff before the "Best Before" or "Use By" date. If things are one day after, and assuming it is open, it is gone (I am a HUGE germapahobe), if it is not open, it will be used VERY fast (within a day or two). I aslo clean out the fridge every few days, whether it needs it or not (DH hates that) but I have had food poisioning before (recently might I add) and it SUCKS a**!!!

Nope. Chris is a cook also, and he gets all freaked out and goes and buys new stuff if its not "fresh"

Depends on what it is... but for the most part, yes. I do the inspect & sniff test, and if it looks/smells ok, then I can't stand to waste it..
