Are you planning to have an OB or a Midwife? Do you have a history with whoever you've decided on?

I would love to have a midwife however I live in a very small town and if I want one I would have to drive an hour or more So OB it is....he didn't deliver either of my kids but has been my OB since I moved back to Illinois.

Midwife! It's an OB/midwife practice and you can choose. If you want the midwife, you need to remain low risk. If you become high risk, you get switched over to the OB.

I saw her when I was pregnant last year, but miscarried at 12 weeks. I really liked her, though, and chose her again.

I would LOVE to use my (homebirth) midwife again, but there are some political and backup issues right now and I'm just not comfortable using her as a VBAC with no supportive doctors on that side of town to transfer to if needed.

So I am with a gigantic OB practice, who have generally supportive policies and deliver at the most amazing mom/baby friendly hospital. I've had one appointment and already I can tell it will be a thinly veiled struggle to avoid interventions in pregnancy - not delivery, just the pregnancy. Really not what I wanted, but I am headstrong and can handle it.

I'll be with an OB, same as my last pregnancy. I'm somewhat high risk due to other medical conditions. I'm still undecided as to whether I want a VBAC or not.

I'm trying for a home VBAC with the same group of midwives we used for DD. My last labor didn't go at all as planned but we had such fantastic care that I can't wait to work with them again. If things stall like they did the first time (I had a 60 hour labor with DD, 48 of which were at home) then we'll transfer to the same hospital. They have a great VBAC rate and its just up the street so I'm comfortable with that as my backup plan. We're in good hands either way.

I'm sticking with my OB - it's a huge practice but luckily I love all 6 of the doctors. We rotate each visit so they get to see us multiple times so whoever you end up with is familiar with your case.

I'm not sure if I will be doing a vbac or not either - if I'm not - I will definitely schedule my c-section with my favorite ob again. She was amazing throughout the process last time.

I absolutely LOVE my gny0cologist, who just so happens to be an excellent OB as well. So I'm sticking with her, as least for now. She is amazing, so comforting and warm and I feel very safe with her. I think I might see about getting a doula as well. My OB delivers in a hospital which is very near my home, and the hospital practices couplet care, so that's a plus.

Last time around, I had an OB very late in the game, and didn't realize until it was too late that our views on birthing didn't really coincide very well. This time, I'm looking into either a homebirth, or finding a birthing center. There are two near-ish to me (within twenty minutes away), so we'll see how that works out.

Here you always deliver with a midwife unless there are complications or a c/s.

I'm high risk so I'll be seeing a perinatologist. Same group of doctors that delivered my first baby.

OB. Same woman I went to with my first pregnancy. One of my SILs went to her and highly recommended her.
