Got my first diaper cover today to go over the contour dipe I picked up used at a consignment store this week. They're so little!

We didn't start DD until 4 months so I don't have any NB diapers and we want to start right away on cloth this time. Mostly prefolds and covers since they're cheap and we most likely won't have another baby to pass them on to.

It's just so terribly addictive!

I want to get new fluff. I won't be buying anything for awhile though. My last baby was in newborns forever and is still in smalls, so I may have to just get a few preemie diapers because I don't have many of those.

I've never used cloth for a newborn before, but they say you want about 24 diapers if you don't want to do laundry every day. Bare minimum 12. We're probably going to start with a dozen prefolds and at least 6 covers (if they don't get totally blown out with poop you can wipe the covers off and reuse) and see where that gets us. I've got a couple of smaller diapers that DD grew out of pretty quickly that might work on a newborn, and I also want to get a few more fleece soarers because they're super cozy, machine washable and nothing ever escapes them. In my dreams I'd do nothing but wool because I love it so much but that's a whole lot of hand washing stubborn poop stains. Learned the hard way last time.

They're just like the old school flat diapers that you used to have to fold up before pinning, but they're much smaller and made with more layers in the middle for extra absorbency so you don't have to do all the folding. There are several ways you can use them; the easiest is to fold them into thirds and lay them inside a cover or you can stuff them into a pocket diaper. You can also wrap them around baby and pin them to catch more poo.
