Hi girls! I have been reading alot about how a lot of you get BW done very often to check your betas....I am pregnant with my second child and I only remember getting BW done once in the beginning of my pregnancy with my daughter and so far with this one it has been the same thing..should I be getting BW to find out what my Betas are regularly? I have had 2 ultrasounds done so far (last one was almost 2 weeks ago) but my doc has only checked my blood that one time.....

No you are fine, they usually only draw to make sure levels are rising if there is a problem.

I've never had betas done for my pregnancies except when I had a miscarriage and checked to see if there was any HCG remaining.

No, you shouldn't need to unless there have been problems in the past or you are having symptoms of a possible miscarriage. You have been getting u/s's so they are already regularily checking to make sure things are progressing as they should, which is why they check betas anyway If your doctor has no concerns, they won't check the levels.

I've never had betas done either. I they did draw 2 vials when they took the initial blood draw to give me my positive pregnancy test, but that was it. I agree that they should only take them if there is a problem, or they suspect a problem (or past history of problems!)

They didn't do it with either of my boys. This time I requested it because of my MC last month, I'm very curious to make sure they double on time. I had my first one on Friday, it was only 34, but that's still in the normal range. I think I'll be going back on Monday to get another draw, once it reaches 2000 I'll have a dating ultrasound since I never had a period after my MC.

The only time I had my betas tested was when they suspected I was having a miscarriage. I got 3 draws 2 close to each other to determine if my numbers were rising (they didn't though) and then one much later to make sure my numbers were back to normal and my body had fully miscarried.

In 3 other pregnancy, 1 since my m/c I've never had them drawn. So I definitely wouldn't worry.

Only reason I get my betas done is because I have PCOS and needed the help of a fertility specialist to get pregnant this time. He also did ultrasounds every other day to help me pinpoint when I was ovulating because I had cycles lasting from 20 days to 62 days in length before I got his help.

The way they do it is hcg, progesterone check every visit and an ultrasound until they discharge you to the regular OB then I will not be getting anymore bloodwork I don't think.
