Hubby bought some canned mackerel because he said it was a couple bucks cheaper than salmon. I just read that king mackerel is on the "avoid" list of fish for pregnancy. Is that different that regular mackerel? I'm not fish savvy.
King mackerel is a large game fish and highly sought after and is almost always sold fresh. Atlantic and other small mackerel are common and a much smaller fish lower on the food chain. Bigger fish higher on the food chain concentrate more mercury, that is why you need to avoid them. But canned mackerel that was cheaper than salmon is almost certainly NOT king mackerel and should be safe. Hth!!
