Well, my first "real" appointment anyways. I had a meet & greet appointment last week, but my midwife got called to a home birth, so we ended up just chatting with one of the other women who work in the office.

I guess at today's appointment they'll get a urine and blood sample, weigh me, talk about my birth plan, etc. etc. It's all being done a bit differently than with my first pregnancy, so I'm not exactly sure what to expect.

I'm a little bummed because my husband can't get off work today to come. Actually I'm a little bummed in general. I don't know what's with me lately. It's like...logically, I know I'm happy about this pregnancy and all that, we were trying for this, and it's what we wanted...but now that it's happened I just can't seem to get excited about it. I've been in a blue funk for weeks. It might have something to do with the fact that I've been so much sicker with this pregnancy than my first. It's hard to get excited when you feel like crap for 8 weeks straight. But I don't know if that's the sole reason. I've had on and off issues with depression my whole teen/adult life, and I think I'm going through some of that right now. And then of course I start feeling guilty, because I feel like I'm supposed to be happy and excited and I'm just not.

I'm hoping I'll get to hear the heart beat today, and maybe that will help a bit.

Be gentle on yourself...pregnancy, hormones & life changes, although exciting, is very scary, and VERY overwhelming...
Take care of you, and get the support you need, the rest will fall into place! It's a crazy time... And the change from 1 baby to 2 babies is HUGE!!!!!

Very simply and well said. Don't be so hard on yourself. I would definitely mention to your midwife about how you're feeling and your history with depression. It's common for women in pregnancy to go through depression. I was in a funk for a couple weeks, and had a hard time feeling excited. Not only have I been sick (and I agree, it's hard to feel really excited when you feel like crap, and are taking care of another child), but everything in our lives is going to change so dramatically, it's kind of scary.

Don't be afraid to tell your midwife your concerns, not only will it help to talk about it, and have your feelings validated, but, she'll have priceless advice and suggestions, I'm sure. It'll look up. Hang in there.
