We also told our families that we were expecting during Thanksgiving. We had family pictures taken a few weeks ago to use as our Christmas card. The caption said "Merry Christmas from the Five of us! Trenton, Courtney, Liliana, Abrielle, and Baby #3" DH handed out the cards as our family showed up. My SIL came first, and apparently she didn't read the card because she was trying to get me to drink a large glass of champagne. When my MIL came with DH's aunt and uncle, everyone was crowded in the kitchen. So DH gave cards to my mom, my MIL, and his aunt. I wasn't even in the room! I think my MIL read the caption and then had to point it out to everyone else. The news was very well received much to my surprise. My mother has always had some sort of rude comment when I've announced pregnancies, so it was kind of nice for her to be excited for once.

I wish I could tell people in a group, but they are scattered across the world. Social pressure forces people (your mom) to be nice.

That's great! I decided after our reveal that doing it in a group is definitely the way to go...much less likely for someone to be rude in a group.

That's what I was thinking too. We've announced in a group of just my side of the family before that didn't turn out that great. DH's family is always happy, so I think that was the key this time
