I have no definite info, but I'll happily hypothesize. I would guess that since it has to be triggered by something (like your moving quickly), that it's simply muscle or ligament related. If it were something to worry about (like contraction type stuff), if would probably be more constant or at least more out of the blue.
I always have random hip and lower back pains, ever since I was pregnant with my first. Usually only once or twice a week. Now I've had throbbing pain in my left hip joint for days. It totally blows, sometimes stretching helps. Taking walks when it isn't hurting helps it occur less, too. Also, it seems like the more sitting I'm doing, the more it'll hurt. HTH!
