Can we drink this while pregnant? It's like a powder you put in water to make a flavored fizzy drink that helps with immune system as it has Vitamin C in it. I really think I'm getting sick and I know we can't really take cold meds so.I'm trying to find all other remedies.

I did some searching on the web and I think most think it is fine to take, up to 2-3x a day. So just no excessively... but that is kind of the rule of thumb with everything in pregnancy. Obviously I am no doctor though. I hope you feel better soon!

**Update: We have a 24hr Nurse Help Line here for medications... so I called. (I have insomnia anyway). They, of course, said I should double check with a physician because you shouldn't take more than 4000 of Vitamin C and that is including your prenatal. And then to double check to make sure there isn't excessive amounts of Vitamin A. (I guess that can cause problems). I know that isn't much help but I got the feeling from the nurse that as long as you stay under the 4000 and away from a lot of Vitamin A it should be okay. But double check!!**

Just FYI, vitamin C helps you keep from getting sick in the first place to some degree, but ZINC is where it's at as far as reducing the length/severity of colds and flu, and it can help prevent illness too. Clinical studies have shown it to be far more effective than vitamin C. I have NO idea about rather or not it's okay for pregnancy, but worth asking about. Zicam is a popular zinc supplement for helping with colds.

Of course if you want to have some vitamin C too you could have some oranges or other high in C foods just to help.

Make sure you are getting your 5-7 servings of vegetables and fruits every day. Taking mega-doses of C is usually safe, but since it is water-soluble you will just pee out the extra anyway. From all the research I've ever seen, by the time you are feeling symptoms it is really too late for the supplements to prevent a cold/flu. It is best to make sure you are getting what you need every day.

Vitamin A is one you have to be careful with- it is fat-soluble so your body metabolizes it differently and can't shed excess as easily. It is toxic to your baby in large amounts. I believe 8,000 IU is considered the upper safe limit.
