I think it's a little early to actually set one up, I'm thinking around 16 weeks or so. But I thought I would open a discussion on possible requirements to be met to gain access. There are two ways to have a private board, one is a private subforums that would require a password. The second is a private group where I add everyone who meets the requirements and remove people that don't. The positive to a group is that you don't need to remember a PW. But I prefer a private subforums, I like that when I am logged in I can see if there is a new post without going into the group and I just prefer the look of be subforums as to the group. But that's just my personal preference. What are your thoughts?

I like private subforums for the same reason as you. You can store the password in the computer so you just double click in the pw field and hit log-in. A lot of times it won't log you out anyways. Like I hardly ever have to even log in to JM bc I have it set to stay logged in.

I don't think I can access groups from the forumrunner app on my phone, but I can access private subforums. That said, I never joined the private forum for my last DDC and am not super interested in doing one this time either. But to include us mobile-app users, a private subforum would be better I think.

What do you ladies think the requirements for access should be?

I've only been on JM since August so I've never been apart of a private subforum. What exactly is it for?

It would only be allowed to be read by those who meet the requirements that we as a group decide on. It's more for people to post a be t about dh, mil, tmi info that they don't want on the main board. It would just be for our group!

I think a min. overall post count on JM and especially a min. post amount in the DDC. I also vote subforum. I post from my Ipad a lot and navigating within JM can sometimes be a pain.

To answer the previous question. The private forum is typically sensitive information that you don't want to be viewed by everyone in the public forum. It can be family related, vents, work related or some people are more comfortable posting pictures etc. in a private place. A lot of members lurk in the DDC (sometimes trolling for drama, sometimes just to check on friends) and there will be things that come up that you don't want to be broadcast to the world.

Not sure what minimum #'s I'd pick though. Maybe 50-100 posts in the DDC but I'm not sure about in JM overall... 300?

I can't remember what it was for the Dec. 2010 DDC. It was a fairly high number because several ladies had to make a point to be more active in the club to get their post count up.

We can always re-evaluate the post counts as time goes on.

I agree with choosing a sub forum over a group, but no clue on post #'s. I've also never been a part of a private group because I've not been on JM very long either.

I haven't been here long, I was on another site for my first son. I probably wouldn't have enough posts with my crazy work schedule but I understand people's need for privacy.

Yea, I was worried about that for women who just joined when getting their 's. Maybe 100 DDC posts and 150 JM posts? To start off with anyhow. That's my final 2 cents. LOL!

What do you mean by a group? I understand private subforums. But what's the difference between our DDC now and a group? My last DDC had subforums, but only one of them was set to private.

The social groups that JM now has, have the option of being invite only which would make it like a private subforum but in social group format. It would still only be one.

Ah ok. I like the idea of an invite only private group. There are just so many weird lurkers on here.
