I am not finding out the sex this time around but FWIW I did the elective gender ultrasound with my son and I really loved it. For one, I didn't have to wait . Two, it was cool because since it wasn't a medical appointment the tech really just focused on showing us the things that we'd want to see & hear as parents. Tons of pictures of the baby's face & profile, listening to the heartbeat for a long time, and just watching him do silly things in the womb. In our case the room was super cozy, huge couch for the twins to relax on, and the monitor that we got to watch everything on was practically the size of a small movie theater screen. REALLY awesome. So for those who do want to know the gender and are anxious, I definitely think it's worth it. They can be pricey but some places have coupons floating around out there if you Google them. Or, in our case, the place we went to did 50% off on two Mondays every month to drive traffic there on an otherwise slow business day. So call ahead and see if they offer anything like that.
I cant see spending so much money when we could find out in a couple weeks anyway. I have concidered if we cant find out at our regular ultrasound going to a special one, but will probably not. It's so expensive, and we have way more important things to be buying for baby now.
My doctor told me I wasn't allowed to go anywhere else until after my 20 week ultrasound at their office. Apparently they have had problems with people going to do that and the tech realizing (or thinking) that something is wrong with their baby, but can't tell them what and then they freak out. So, I will wait and find out the gender then. But, I would love to go to one of those places and get lots of 3D or 4D pictures of baby later. Just because my doctor's office doesn't give us very many pictures and I don't think they have or do the 3D or 4D. Less than 2 months. I can wait that long, even though I am dying to know what it is!
We're going to a new doctor next week, and when I talked to them on the phone to see if DH really needed to come, they said they ultrasound all new patients. I'll be 15wks 3days, so I'm hoping we can get a gender at that appointment if they do in fact do an ultrasound then
I was just considering this. Our gender apt. isn't until Jan. 14th and I am dying to know. DH thinks I'm crazy for even considering it. There isn't anyone local that will do them, so I would have to drive an hour away. If it weren't for the drive, I would probably go for it.
I wasn't considering it, but now that you bring it up I am finding myself Googling local ultrasound places. My DH thinks I'm nuts, but I'm getting close enough where I am having a hard time being patient. I WANT TO KNOW NOW!!!!!! I don't know how you team greeners do it. There is no way I could hold out.
All the local ones here will not take you unless you have had a full medical ultrasound such as the nst or the 20 week ultrasound first. Some even require a doctor to sign off. So since I didn't do the nst I'm stuck waiting until my jan 14th appointment. I just want to see the baby though - we are team green. =)
My ultrasound is scheduled for 1/11, which is only a month away anyway. With the holidays, the time will fly. I can wait, but we will probably do a fun ultrasound around 28-30 weeks to get some video and 3D images.
