I think reading all kinds of birth stories is actually really really valuable. I am the kind of person whose anxiety is lowered when I feel fully informed and prepared for the full range of possibilities. I find the birth stories where things DIDN'T go according to plan (to various degrees) really helped me as a FTM deal with my own small road bumps and not beat myself up that my "ideal" birth didn't happen. I was not only able to visualize what a perfect birth would be like, but also what an appropriate decision to go to emergency c-section would look like, etc.

Also getting the "mom's eye view" is invaluable. When you just watch those overdramatic TLC shows and stuff, it makes it all seem way more crazy. In reality there is a lot of waiting and time passing with you in a weird altered state and stuff like that.

I am not yet bitten by the birth story bug, I think the pregnancy doesn't feel quite real enough to me yet... but at some point I will for sure be devouring birth stories again. The longer the better!!! Lol.

Me too! Especially all natural birth stories right now...I'm attempting my first med-free birth this go round (I've had two failed epidurals but this will still be different since I won't be stuck in a bed). I feel like reading and informing myself as much as I can will help me be better prepared for any scenario that might happen.

Ashley-
Ah, that would be so cool if you could do an all natural birth! Especially since you have had the failed epidurals. I love reading those stories too, they are so different than my own. It is nice to be able to experience in some way! You should go for it!

I did! That was sooo crazy, a baby born at home in the bathroom! It was amazing! I loved the part about the stunned cop lol. (Like he knows WTH he is talking about LOL). But unfortunately the pictures were gone so I couldn't see them. Dang it. But it was a really amazing story!!
