I have another u/s in a week to see if we can get a better look at everything that is going on, but even if we can see everything, they are going to want me to get an amnio. I've had one before to check lung development, but I was 34 weeks. I had really bad contracting after and when they induced me at 35 weeks, I was already dilated 3cm.
Has anyone else had one? Tell me your experience.

You can refuse. If you dont feel comfortable doing it then dont. They wanted to do an amnio on my mom when she was preg with my brother....after she'd been in a bad car accident and she refused since the risk of loss is high after an amnio. She didnt agree until she was much farther along. And then she had him a week later at 27 weeks.

Also i should add my aunt who is a labor and delivery RN and has been one for 25 years has given me strict orders to never allow an amnio until third tri if its needed.

I would talk to them about the risks and how many post-amnio pregnancy losses they have seen at your practice. These days some places do ultrasound guided amnios with a high level u/s and highly trained people and the risks are much lower than the oft quoted 1/100. My OB has seen over 700 patients get an amnio and not one pregnancy loss afterwards. And think about what actionable information the amnio would give you, and how that would benefit the baby, you, and/or your family. These are all highly personal factors that need to be weighed to see whether the benefits outweigh the risks or not.

I am sorry if this seems overly dry and logical but honestly, that is often how I deal with my own emotionally difficult situations, I just sort of go into robot mode and enumerate everything very coldly. It may not be how you do it at all, it may be an emotional decision, and that is up to you, it is all okay.

I have been thinking of you and your family and hoping for the best possible outcome. Big hugs to you Rebecca.

I had an ultrasound when I was 15 weeks pregnant with my daughter Kaylee. I was super nervous but did it. I did have some slight contracting for maybe an hour but that was all. For me it was worse thinking about and wondering if it was the right decision. All I can say to you is go with your gut, do what feels right for you.
Thoughts and prayers to you............
Good Luck

Thanks all. I already know I'll be getting one. Even if everything looks good, without chromosome testing, we won't know if there are other defects that would need to be addressed right away. I'm just a big chicken. I'd be fine if they could knock me out first.
One more week and we'll find out what we're doing.

I will keep you and your baby in my prayers! I haven't had one, and I would definitely be one that would be freaking out about getting one. That being said, I would probably end up going through with it, despite the risks. But with every pregnancy I have had, I have had to do risky things to be as informed as possible. It is a personal decision for sure. I wish you all the luck in the world.
JaxonJocelyn Gabriel Grayson and due in September!
