I am getting antsy to make some baby purchase. Yet I will not know the gender for about 5 weeks still. My dad and stepmom got us a crib/changing table combo but that is all I have thus far. Any suggestions?
My first purchase ever was a cradle. I think they are nicer than bassinets. I don't co-sleep really, I keep it next to the bed.
And then I got some creamy ecru colored pure soft bedding for it.
I was super sick when I pregnant last time (I am this time too) and I bought the cradle early on for a morale boost. I kept it in the living room and everytime I exited the bathroom after another round of puking, I would see the cradle and it really really helped in making me love this baby. (I was struggling with it, I almost resented it at first for as sick as I was).
The cradle was so dreamy, done up with the bedding and a little bear that played sounds of the womb tucked in the corner.
The cradle saved me. I have it out already in the living room again.
If you are going to have a shower, then you might want to hold off on your big items. You will be surprised by how many you get (or how much in gift cards you get to pay for the big items). Most places offer a Registry completion coupon, which is an additional % off total price for one big shopping trip after your due date.
We bought mostly clothes items that we really wanted or liked. Almost everything else was given to us at showers.
We started stocking up on diapers and wipes pretty early on, like a box every paycheck in the bigger sizes... and we got our carseat/travel system in a gender neutral fabric. I think pretty early on we started buying plain white onesies, socks, things like that because my family always goes overboard on the outfits but never remembers socks
I didn't really get much big stuff at my shower, we got mostly blankets, clothes and bath stuff, so I probably won't buy that stuff this time until closer to delivery if needed.
JaxonJocelyn Gabriel Grayson and due in September!
If you're planning on nursing, get a tube of lanolin. I would've died the first two weeks without it. A boppy pillow is super helpful for that, too. I like the snap-on outfits rather than onesies that you pull over baby's head, I just think they're easier when handling a delicate newborn. Then again that could've been my first-time mom paranoia that I'd break her, lol. Diapers, wipes, and stock up on movie rentals. There will be a LOT of couch time!
Eliza Rose, born 6/9/10 ...and getting a little brother for her birthday! Baby Henry Wilder, due 6/7/13
I started with purchases that we didn't have to know the gender to choose. We got the travel system, the monitor, the breast pump, some bottles, and stuff like that. Then I started the fun shopping after we found out the gender.
Don't buy a lot of clothes if you are having a shower because everyone wants to buy you cute outfits.
When stocking up on diapers if you are using disposable buy size 2 & 3, most people will buy you newborn & size 1.
