Whenever somebody asks what I am naming my son and I say Axel, the immediate response is "Oh because of Axel Rose?" Omg. No! I have to hold my tongue and not get snobby and say, can I not name my son Axel simply because I love that name? Lol I never even listened to Guns and Roses!!! But I did think of his middle name from the lead singer of Alice in Chains. I wish they'd guess that one instead

But that would annoy me too!

I love the name! And I love Guns 'n Roses, but I'd love the name anyway

I hear you, though. Our youngest is Peyton, and yes technically I did get the name from Peyton Manning because we both love football, but we didn't actually name him after PM. We still get people all the time that ask that and he's 6 :\

We get this with Bourne and the movies. DH just says in his most sarcastic voice "yes. I named him after a movie "

I figured it was from guns n roses and alice n chains
unfortunately naming the kid axel is going to get the guns n roses thing for the rest of time, something you'll just have to deal with

I knew an Axel growing up but he was German so it obviously was not because of Guns n Roses

Yeah, I know an older European (Swedish I think?) named Axel, maybe spelled differently though, and pronounced "Oxel". So that's what I think of. Isn't Axel Rose kind of, you know, passe now? Do people really still think about Guns n Roses that much?? I wouldn't worry. Some people are just annoying and have a weird connotation or nickname for every name under the sun. That is why we don't tell anybody except close family what our names will be, and they won't say anything because we use meaningful family names... everybody else finds out when it is already on the birth certificate and that helps minimize the unwanted opinions

We always get asked if we named Kiefer after Kiefer Sutherland. It's annoying but I've come to realize that people will do that with any unusual name if there is someone famous to link it to. Like people can't just like an unusual name without there being some tie to pop culture...whatever.

I like that name!

And we get, "okay, who's Arthur?" when we tell people that we're naming our son Arthur. Yes, we're naming him after my grandfather, however, why does that have to be a reason to pick an "older" name? I'm kind of getting tired of that question.

Arthur has been on my names list many times but DH vetos it. (meany-butt). Anyways, it's not a family name at all. I just like it!
