I've been waking up with new itchy bites every day since last week end I think we've finally realized that it's not some strange pregnancy symptom, but bed bugs! from what we figure they more than likely came from maternity clothes I got from eBay and opened and put on our bed. so today is being spent deep cleaning our bedroom and going to buy a new mattress, bedding, and pillows. ughh. I only hope we're getting them before they get to the girls' room.

Oh, that's awful! I'm so sorry for you! It sucks because there really is no good way to get rid of them, you pretty much have to get a new mattress and bedding. I hope they didn't make it to your girls' room!

Put alcohol in a spray bottle and go ahead and spray EVERYTHING IN THE HOUSE once a day for the next week just to be safe!

We had them last year. I am SO SORRY. Have you actually seen signs of them? Alcohol will not do a thing to help; there's a specific chemical that exterminators use (I can't remember the name now) and that plus extreme temperatures are the only things that will kill them. We had to pay $1,000 to have our place treated and the first treatment didn't take. It was EXHAUSTING prepping everything. As for your bedding, wash and dry everything on hot hot hot for at least 90 minutes. You may have to do the same with all if your clothing and other linens if it's spread. Move your bed out and vacuum next to all the baseboards with a hose. If you don't think it's spread to other bedrooms you can just get mattress covers to protect the beds from future problems. Make sure the zipper has a lock on it; a lot of the covers on the market don't and they can get in through the end of the zipper.

Sorry to write a book, we just happen to know a lot on the subject. Worst part for us is, we live in an infested building and they can come back at any time. We can't afford to do treatment again so we just have covers on the beds and if they do come back we just have to live with it. Hope your problem isn't so complicated! Hugs!

First, I'm so sorry! Bed bugs are awful! Our neighborhad them this fall and it took several exterminator trips and lots and lots of hard work and being very thorough. Honestly, when we found out, we didn't let their kids in our house for a couple months.
They wrapped their mattresses, driered everything possible, and the important part, carry all your stuff to the drier inside a garbage bag so you don't inadvertently drop bugs or eggs in the rest of your house on the way. Don't put anything back in your room until you can't find any more bugs. Just keep it in the garage or something. Also, you MIT have to steam clean your floors, carpets, and furniture. Basically, steam clean everything in your room.

just got finished getting our new everything. tomorrow while I'm at work my husband will be taking all of our clothes from the closet and washing them and cleaning baseboards, etc. I'm washing the girls' bedding tonight just in case, but they haven't been complaining. we finally actually saw one of the bugs on a pillowcase, so it is definitely them. I just hope this works and we caught it soon enough.

Not everybody is affected by the bites (DD and I are not) so our infestation got pretty bad before we noticed it. Check along the seams of the girls' mattresses for tiny black specks that look like black permanent marker stains. It's pretty rare to see adult bugs because they're so good at hiding, so what you're looking for is their excrement. On my mattress I found a lot of the spots on the bottom of the box spring, where the fabric is stapled to the frame. If you've seen an adult bug in your room I'd HIGHLY recommend sealing the other mattresses as a precaution because the girls might be getting bit and not having a reaction. Not trying to freak you out, but they're just such a pain and they migrate once you get rid of their original host so they could very well move to other rooms.

Thanks. I just checked their mattresses while they are bare and don't see anything. we also sprayed the bed bug spray on them while stuff is washing. I don't think it has gotten too bad at this point because it took us a while to find the one we did and it was microscopic, so I'm guessing a young one. fingers crossed. I think I'm super allergic so they got noticed right away. I'm like that with most bitey bugs.

My aunt saw some bedbugs in her bed, and caught it really early. She got rid of her bedding and had an exterminator over who sprayed to kill for three weeks, and they said to spray everything with alcohol, as it's sort of a deterrent.
Just to qualify my previous statement.

Edgeofelise - thoughts? I don't know anything about it! I would like to hope she was not being lied to, but you know, those things happen.
